In uno shooting organizzato nei minimi dettagli, parte del tempo va destinato ad assicurarsi che niente vada storto. La bellezza dell'improvvisazione è la certezza che qualcosa andrà storto.
A volte la direzione giusta è togliere. Il volto fuori campo, la mossa, il buio, quello che non si vede definisce quello che si vede. Togliere il volto non significa togliere il soggetto, significa spostare l'attenzione dalla persona alla forma, dall'identità al gesto, da chi è a cosa comunica. È un altro concetto di ritratto, ma comunque un ritratto.
In a shoot organised down to the last detail, part of the time goes into making sure nothing goes wrong. The beauty of improvisation is the certainty that something will go wrong.
Directions: sometimes the direction is to take away. The face out of frame, the motion blur, the darkness, what you don't see defines what you see. Removing the face doesn't mean removing the subject, it means shifting the focus: from person to form, from identity to gesture, from who it is to what it communicates. It's a different concept of portrait, but a portrait nonetheless.
