Esistono incontri che ti mettono alla prova da subito, come quello con Toni Thorimbert, ospite a Orbetello per il festival ImagO. A farmi da soggetto un nome storico della fotografia - incontrato per la prima volta solo pochi minuti prima - niente studio, nessuna luce scrupolosamente modellata: un led di fortuna e la fretta tipica del dietro le quinte degli eventi. Quella sera Toni avrebbe tenuto un talk dal titolo profetico di 'No Comfort Zone'. Ho avuto qualche esitazione, ma una volta superato il timore iniziale ho scoperto che le poltrone rosse del cinema si erano trasformate da semplice sfondo a parte integrante del racconto. E che Toni aveva intuito tutto e stava già gestendo la situazione, è bastato scattare.
There are encounters that put you to the test right away, like the one with Toni Thorimbert, guest in Orbetello for the ImagO festival. My subject: a landmark name in photography — met for the very first time just minutes before — no studio, no carefully sculpted light: a makeshift LED and the typical rush of backstage at events. That evening Toni would give a talk with the prophetic title 'No Comfort Zone'. I had some hesitation, but once I got past the initial awe I discovered that the red cinema seats had transformed from a simple backdrop into an integral part of the story. And that Toni had sensed it all and was already working the situation, all I had to do was shoot.
