David Bulli - Ritratto

Ritratto fotografico in studio di David Bulli in un momento intimo a occhi chiusi mentre abbraccia una chitarra elettrica. Scatto di Marco Arienti.

Sessione in studio con David. Dopo alcuni scatti e pose ho semplicemente proposto una pausa e lui si è appoggiato alla chitarra chiudendo gli occhi, in modo molto spontaneo. È bastato vederlo per capire che quella posa semplice e naturale era il ritratto che stavamo cercando. Ho riacceso le luci, a volte basta davvero poco.

Studio session with David. After a few shots and poses I simply suggested a break, and he leaned against his guitar and closed his eyes, quite spontaneously. Seeing him like that was enough to know that simple, natural pose was the portrait we were looking for. I turned the lights back on. Sometimes that's really all it takes.

Bianca - Directions

Ritratto femminile di Bianca dalla serie Directions, toni caldi, occhi chiusi, fiori e erba di pampa in primo piano, petali in caduta fuori fuoco sullo sfondo.

Un'idea precisa e costruita, in questo caso invece di togliere abbiamo aggiunto. I fiori, l'erba di pampa, i petali lasciati cadere da fuori campo durante lo scatto. Ogni elemento è voluto, cercato e posizionato, anche gli occhi chiusi di Bianca

A precise and constructed idea — this time instead of taking away, we added. The flowers, the pampas grass, the petals dropped from out of frame during the shot. Every element is deliberate, chosen and placed. So are Bianca's closed eyes.

Riccardo Bruni - Storie

“Sono nato a Orbetello, nel 1973. A quei tempi, in casa avevamo una macchina da scrivere. Una Antares. Un giorno presi un foglio, lo inserii e iniziai a scrivere un racconto. Una storia di fantascienza. Alla fine, rilegai una decina di pagine con una spillatrice: il mio primo libro. Ero uno scrittore.” (Riccardo Bruni)

Con qualche differenza, è più o meno andata così anche per me. Un giorno ho preso la macchina fotografica e ho deciso di iniziare a raccontare le cose a modo mio, senza descriverle necessariamente per quello che erano. Addirittura inventando, a volte, perché mi sembrava, ingenuamente, che a Orbetello non ci fosse tanto da raccontare e che servisse un po’ di fantasia. Amicizia e esperienze comuni a parte - io e Riccardo siamo cresciuti nello stesso condominio - questo è il motivo per cui mi piace quando riesco a sentirmi vicino al Riccardo che scrive storie, cioè quando riesco a sentirmi come lui tanti anni fa di fronte a quella macchina da scrivere. Allora prendo anch’io un foglio e inizio a riempirlo, non solo di immagini, ma, ancora una volta, anche di musica, di letture, di incontri. E di sigari e chiacchiere fino a tardi. Riccardo Bruni ha pubblicato con vari editori - tra cui Effequ, Rizzoli, La Nave di Teseo, Amazon Publishing - e come indipendente, sperimentando le vie del self publishing, il suo ultimo lavoro è una serie scritta per Amazon Publishing, dedicata alle indagini dell’avvocato Leo Berni.

“I was born in Orbetello, in 1973. At that time we had an old Antares typewriter at home and one day I took a piece of paper and started writing a story. A science fiction story. In the end I bound about ten pages with a stapler. My first book. I was a writer." (Riccardo Bruni)

With just a few differences it went about the same way for me. One day I took my camera and decided to start communicating in my own way, not necessarily describing things as they actually were. Even inventing sometimes because it naively seemed to me that there wasn't much to tell in Orbetello and that a little imagination was needed. So came out my first prints. I was a photographer. Friendship and common experiences aside - both me and Riccardo grew up in the same small town - that’s why I like it when I feel close to him writing his story a long time ago. I take a blank sheet too and start filling it up with images and music and readings and meetings. And cigars and talking staying up late. Riccardo Bruni has published on Effequ, Rizzoli, La Nave di Teseo, Amazon Publishing and as an independent. His latest work is a series dedicated to the investigations of lawyer Leo Berni.

È quasi sempre la prima inquadratura e molto spesso il primo scatto di una sessione: sguardo diretto in camera, inquadratura frontale sul volto, nient'altro. Una scelta precisa.

It's almost always the first framing and very often the first shot of a session: direct gaze into the camera, frontal framing on the face, nothing else. A deliberate choice.

Una breve intervista per Phototeller a cura di Foto Attualità Cesni, che ringrazio per l’invito. Con mio grande piacere sono stato in compagnia degli amici Mosé Franchi e Gianluca Catzeddu. Mosé collabora ormai regolarmente con il Festival ImagO dal 2017 e ho partecipato ai corsi di Gianluca in più di un occasione nel corso degli anni, bello dividere lo schermo con loro.

Viola, in una veste insolita. L'abbigliamento, l'acconciatura, il make-up, tutto rimanda a un'estetica d'epoca. Lo sguardo verso l'alto aggiunge qualcosa di indefinito, una distanza che non è però lontananza. Solo il colore tradisce la modernità.

Viola, in an unusual guise. The clothing, the hairstyle, the make-up — everything points to a period aesthetic. The upward gaze adds something indefinite, a distance that is not quite remoteness. Only the colour betrays the modernity.
