Un'immagine che si presta a più di una lettura. Vieri sta posando? Certamente, sa di essere fotografato e guarda dritto nell'obiettivo. Eppure quella mano con lo scatto racconta anche qualcos'altro: sta forse fotografando me mentre io fotografo lui? O è addirittura di fronte a uno specchio e sta realizzando un autoritratto? L'ultima ipotesi è la meno probabile, ma sicuramente in questo scatto il soggetto sta cercando se stesso, forse nella mia lente. È un altro modo di applicare quello che ci siamo detti tante volte parlando dei nostri lavori: togliere per mostrare. Qui a essere tolta è la certezza di chi guarda chi.
Vieri Bottazzini: portrait of a film photographer. An image open to more than one reading. Is Vieri posing? Certainly. He knows he's being photographed and looks straight into the lens, but that hand on the cable release tells another story too: is he perhaps photographing me while I photograph him? Or is he even standing in front of a mirror, making a self-portrait? The last hypothesis is the least likely, but in this shot the subject is undoubtedly searching for himself, perhaps in my lens. It's another way of applying something we've told each other many times talking about our work: stripping away to reveal. Here, what's stripped away is the certainty of who is looking at whom.
