Alla fine dell’incontro con il Gianni Berengo Gardin a ImagO 2019, dopo aver riguardato ancora le sue fotografie e averlo di nuovo ascoltato, ci si ritrova di nuovo con la sensazione che ‘essere cittadini del mondo’ non sia solo un abusato modo di dire. Perché le persone e i luoghi raccontati con semplicità ed estrema maestria dai suoi scatti non parlano solo di un attimo rubato, ma ci ricordano i nostri luoghi e la nostra gente, quella che ci vive accanto, e ci insegnano a osservare con occhio più attento la nostra realtà. “…Ci si sente più ricchi, dopo aver visto le fotografie di Berengo - come scrive ancora Mosé Franchi - è il suo racconto ad accomunarci tutti, perché ognuno di noi può ritrovarsi nei suoi scatti, anche in un tempo diverso, anche in un luogo diverso…” E se mai capitasse di dimenticarsene, la fotografia di Gianni Berengo Gardin sarà ancora lì, e ci verrà di nuovo in aiuto.

Because the people and places told with simplicity and extraordinary mastery in his shots don't just speak of a stolen moment — they remind us of our own places and our own people, those who live beside us, and teach us to observe our own reality with a more attentive eye. "…One feels richer after seeing Berengo's photographs — as Mosé Franchi writes again — it is his storytelling that brings us all together, because each of us can find ourselves in his shots, even in a different time, even in a different place…" And should we ever forget it, Gianni Berengo Gardin's photography will still be there, ready to help us once more.
